Roof replacement in Collingwood

A re-roof done right lasts 25 to 50 years here. Done wrong, it leaks at the first bad ice dam. We build for this climate, in writing.

What a Georgian Bay re-roof has to get right

Snow sits on Collingwood roofs for four months a year. That means three things matter more here than almost anywhere else in Ontario: ice and water protection at the eaves, attic ventilation that keeps the deck cold so dams do not form, and fastening that holds against wind coming off the bay. Price-shopping quotes that skip those items is how a fifteen-year-old roof ends up leaking in year six.

We quote every replacement line by line: tear-off, deck repair rate, membrane coverage, underlayment, material grade, ventilation, and disposal. Compare it against any other quote item for item. If you are still deciding between materials, our metal roofing page and cost guide cover the trade-offs honestly.

Roof replacement questions

How much does a roof replacement cost in Collingwood? +

Most asphalt shingle replacements here land between $8,000 and $16,000 depending on roof size, pitch, layers to tear off, and material grade. Metal runs higher up front and lasts decades longer. Our roof cost guide breaks the numbers down in detail, and every quote we give is itemized and firm.

How long does a re-roof take? +

One to three days for most homes, weather permitting. Tear-off and dry-in happen the same day so your home is never left exposed overnight.

Can you roof over my existing shingles instead of tearing off? +

We almost never recommend it in this climate. Overlays hide deck rot, void many manufacturer warranties, and trap heat that shortens shingle life. Tear-off lets us inspect and fix the deck, then install ice and water shield directly on it, which is what stops ice-dam leaks.

What is ice and water shield and do I need it? +

It is a self-sealing membrane installed at the eaves, valleys, and penetrations. When ice dams push meltwater back up under the shingles, the membrane is what keeps it out of your house. On Georgian Bay roofs we treat generous ice and water coverage as mandatory, not an upgrade.

What warranty do I get? +

Two layers: the manufacturer's warranty on the shingles or panels, and our own written workmanship warranty on the installation. We register the manufacturer warranty for you and you get all paperwork at completion.
