What is ice and water shield and do I need it? +
It is a self-sealing membrane installed at the eaves, valleys, and penetrations. When ice dams push meltwater back up under the shingles, the membrane is what keeps it out of your house. On Georgian Bay roofs we treat generous ice and water coverage as mandatory, not an upgrade.
What warranty do I get? +
Two layers, and you should have both on paper before you pay the final invoice. The manufacturer warranty covers the shingles or panels and is only worth something once it has been registered, so ask for the registration confirmation rather than the brochure. The workmanship warranty covers the installation, and it should name a term and be signed. A spoken warranty is not one.
